Landscape with the Union of Dido and Aeneas
The lovers Dido, Queen of Carthage, and Aeneas, take shelter in the cave on the right. As told in Virgil's Aeneid, the goddess Juno opposed their love. She is seen in the sky with Venus and Hymen, god of marriage. Maratta painted the figures and Dughet the landscape.
