A Herdsman with Five Cows by a River
Cuyp's style was transformed by his study of the Italianate landscapes of fellow Dutch artist Jan Both, who returned to Utrecht from the south in 1641. Warm Italian light is reflected on the water, sails and the flanks of the cattle.
