Portrait of a Woman
Between 1621 and 1627, Van Dyck lived in Italy. He travelled throughout the peninsula but was based in Genoa, where he enjoyed great success as a portraitist to the city's noble families. This portrait dates from this period, although its sitter has not yet been identified. With her fine ruff, prominent jewellery and haughty stare, she must be a member of the Genoese elite.
