The Agony in the Garden

Christ kneels as an angel appears with a chalice, a symbol of his coming sacrifice. The three disciples lie asleep. A pot bellied Judas leads the Roman soldiers to capture Christ. This early work reveals the influence of Bellini's brother-in-law, Mantegna, particularly in the depiction of light.
