The Blood of the Redeemer

Blood pours from the spear wound in Christ's side into a chalice held by an angel. This image was commonly represented on tabernacles enclosing the bread of the Mass. The painting probably served as a tabernacle door. The reliefs on the parapet represent the pagan rites that Christianity superseded.
