The Deposition
The rigid body of the dead Christ is handed down by Nicodemus to Joseph of Arimathea. The fainting Virgin on the left is supported by Saint John the Evangelist. On the right Mary Magdalene weeps. The background deliberately mimics the gilded shrines of carved altarpieces.
