Saints John the Baptist and Lawrence
On the left is Saint John the Baptist carrying the lamb symbolising Christ, whose coming he announced. On the right is the early Christian martyr Saint Lawrence wearing the dress of a deacon of the church and carrying the gridiron on which he was roasted to death.
These two panels once formed the shutters of a small altarpiece made for Archbishop Benedetto Pagagnotti of Florence. The central scene, showing the Virgin and Child, is now in the Uffizi, Florence.
