Die Pieta von Saint-Germain-des-Prés

Eine Ansicht von Paris mit dem Louvre und der Abtei Saint-Germain-des-Prés ersetzt die übliche Ansicht von Jerusalem und schafft Symmetrie zum Berg Golgatha, wo Jesus Christus gekreuzigt wurde. Bei der hinter Christus knienden Figur handelt es sich vermutlich um ein Porträt von Guillaume IV. Briçonnet, Abt von Saint-Germain (1503–1507).

A view of Paris, with the Louvre and the abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, replaces the usual view of Jerusalem and creates symmetry with Mount Golgotha, where Jesus Christ was crucified. The figure kneeling behind Christ is thought to be a portrait of Guillaume IV Briçonnet, abbot of Saint-Germain (1503-1507).
