This work is typical of the traditional paintings that were popular in Siena, depicting the Virgin Mary against a gold background. However, the artist incorporated some typically Renaissance decorative motifs, such as the classical-style garland with cartouches at the top of the scene.
Le tableau témoigne du goût des Siennois pour les formules traditionnelles figurant la Vierge devant un fond d'or. Le peintre intègre néanmoins des motifs décoratifs caractéristiques de la Renaissance. On discerne en effet une guirlande ponctuée de cartouches inspirés de l'Antiquité en haut de l'œuvre.
