Jungfrau der Verkündigung

In der dargestellten Episode verkündet der Engel Gabriel der Jungfrau Maria, dass sie das Jesuskind zur Welt bringen wird. Diese Art der Verkündigung, bestehend aus zwei lebensgroßen Figuren aus polychromiertem Holz, war bei sienesischen Künstlern des 14. und 15. Jahrhunderts sehr beliebt. Sie wurden oft an den Säulen auf beiden Seiten des Kirchenchors angebracht.

The episode depicted is that of the angel Gabriel announcing to the Virgin Mary that she will give birth to the Infant Jesus. This type of Annunciation, consisting of two life-sized figures in polychromed wood, was very much in vogue among Sienese artists of the 14th and 15th centuries. They were often placed against the pillars on either side of the church choir.

L'épisode représenté est celui où l'ange Gabriel annonce à la Vierge Marie qu'elle enfantera Jésus. Ce type d'Annonciation, composé de deux figures grandeur nature en bois polychromé, connaît une grande vogue chez les artistes siennois des 14 et 15° siècles. Ils étaient fréquemment placés contre des piliers de part et d'autre du chœur de l'église.
