Portrait of the Comtesse Vilain XIIII and her Daughter
The Comtesse Vilain XIIII is shown with her five-year-old daughter, Louise, and at the time was pregnant with her second child. The Comtesse was formerly lady-in-waiting to the Empress Marie-Louise, wife of Napoleon. David painted the portrait in the spring of 1816, during the first year of his exile in Brussels after the fall of Napoleon.
