Pietà von Villeneuve-lès-Avignon

Dieses Altarbild ist ein Meisterwerk der provenzalischen Schule aus dem 15. Jahrhundert. Der links dargestellte Kanonikusstifter hat eine Vision der Jungfrau Maria mit ihrem toten Sohn Jesus Christus auf ihrem Schoß, begleitet vom Heiligen Johannes dem Evangelisten und Maria Magdalena.

This altarpiece is a masterwork of the Provençal school from the 15th century. The canon donor portrayed to the left is having a vision of the Virgin Mary with her dead son, Jesus Christ, laid across her lap, accompanied by Saint John the Evangelist and Mary Magdalene.

Ce retable (tableau d'autel) compte parmi les chefs-d'œuvre de l'école provençale du 15° siècle. Le donateur chanoine figuré à gauche a la vision de la Vierge Marie portant sur ses genoux Jésus-Christ, son Fils mort, entourée de saint Jean l'Évangéliste et de Marie-Madeleine.
