Saint George and the Dragon

A princess was sacrificed to a dragon by her terrorised city. Saint George came to her rescue 'in the name of Christ'. The dragon's last victim, posed like the crucified Christ, lies between the princess and her saviour. Above, God the Father blesses the saint's victory. The spectacular light, violent action and swirling landscape forms are characteristic of Tintoretto.
