The kneeling figure of the donator represents Peter I of Rosenberg (+1347), who provided the Vyšší Brod monastery with the finances for the building activities and is therefore known in the sources as the .secundus fundator" (second founder). The model of the church in his hand refers to his building activities. Undoubtedly, it was Peter I of Rosenberg who commissioned this panel cycle, meant most probably for the church of the Cistercian Monastery in Vyšší Brod. This location can be supported by some of the innovative iconography spread around in the Cistercian circles thanks. to the commentaries referred to in the theological texts by Bernard of Clairvaux Quite appealing is the apocryphal motif of St Joseph and the midwife preparing the bath for the newborn Infant Jesus.

Postava klečiciho donátora představuje Petra I. z Rožmberka (+1347), který finančně zásadně přispěl ke stavebnímu rozvoji vyšebrodského kláštera, a v pramenech byl proto zván.secundus fundator" (druhý zakladatel). Na jeho stavební aktivity odkazuje i model kostela v jeho rukou. Petr I. z Rožmberka byl nesporně také objednavatelem tohoto ma lířského cyklu, určeného původně nejspíše pro kostel cisterciáckého kláštera ve Vyšším Brodě. Pro toto umístění mj. hovoři některé ikonografické inovace, jež se v prostředí cisterciáckých klášterů šířily díky komentářům teologických textů Bernarda z Clairvnux. Zajímavý je apokryfní motiv: sv. Josef a porodní bába připravují koupel pro narozeného Krista.
