Verkündigung

Der Flügel zeigt auf der Innenseite die Verkündigung des Engels Gabriel an Maria. Auf der Außenseite ist die Begegnung von Anna und Joachim an der Goldenen Pforte dargestellt, nachdem ihnen - unabhängig von einander ein Engel die Geburt ihrer Tochter Maria ver heißen hatte. Die Szene gehört in den Themenkreis der Marienlegende und steht symbolhaft für das Eingreifen Gottes bei der Zeugung der Mutter Jesu.

The inside panel of the wing shows the Annunciation of the Angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary. The exterior panel depicts St. Anne and St. Joachim meeting at the Golden Gate in Jerusalem, after an angel had prophesied the birth of their daughter, Mary, to each of them separately. This scene belongs within the story of the Virgin Mary and symbolizes God's intervention in the procreation of Christ's mother.
