Krönung Mariens

Das seit dem 13. Jahrhundert beliebte Krönungsmotiv ist hier in einer späten Variation gezeigt: Die andächtig betende Maria kniet vor dem Thron und wird von Christus und Gottvater gemeinsam gekrönt. Beide haben auf dem Himmelsthron Platz genommen; musi zierende Engel umgeben sie. Der Triumphmantel, die Dornenkrone und die Seitenwunde weisen Christus als den Auferstandenen aus.

This is a late version of a theme much loved since the 13th century: the Coronation of the Virgin in Heaven. Mary, praying devoutly, is kneeling in front of the throne. She is crowned jointly by God the Father and the Son, who sit together on the throne, amid angels making music. Christ is recognizable by the Cloak of Glory, the Crown of Thorns and the wound in His side.
